The Association of Ophthalmologists of Thailand was established in 1978 and became the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on June 12, 1995.

The executive committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand consists of the president and 22 council members. The number of active members is 850. The college convenes 2 congresses annually, in July and November. Thai Journal of Ophthalmology is the official journal of the college.

The college is responsible for ophthalmology resident curriculum and conduct Thai Board of Ophthalmology examination. The college also organizes scientific meetings and other public eye-health related activities, networks among ophthalmologists and provides fund and supports for academic and research activities. The college works very closely with Thai Medical Council in maintaining high moral and ethical standards of Thai ophthalmologists. Prevention of blindness and promotion of eye care is another vital role of the college in collaboration with both government and non-governmental organizations.
