Dr. Chi-Chin Sun was enrolled into the Department of Ophthalmology, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Linkou, Taiwan as a resident in 1995 and completed a five-year training program including one year of fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery subspecialty. Thereafter, he was promoted to an attending physician of Ophthalmology at Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in 2000. In addition to daily clinical work load, Dr. Sun enjoyed teaching and was in charge of the resident educational program in his Department. He planned the training course and involved in many training activities for residents and young physicians. As an assistant professor appointed to the school of medicine at Chang Gung University, Dr. Sun also taught medical students the essential examining skills in Ophthalmology. In July 2008, Dr. Sun was promoted to the director of the Department of Ophthalmology. He joined forces to plan the developmental scheme for his Department and now the development of the Department of Ophthalmology in Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital is booming and thriving. It is also worth mentioning that Dr. Sun, when he was in medical school, showed strong interest in medical research. Therefore, he was actively participated in various study programs including basic medical sciences and clinical research, the training of which further solidified the foundation for his future research work.

Dr. Sun was enrolled into a Ph.D. program at the Institute of Clinical Medicine Sciences, Chang Gung University in 2000. His Ph.D. dissertation was "Molecular mechanisms underlying ex vivo expansion human limbal epithelial stem cells on amniotic membrane" and he successfully completed two SCI papers which were published in the leading Ophthalmology journal "Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science"(IOVS) and Stem Cells, respectively. After graduation, Dr. Sun continued his research works and had published many high quality basic research papers in internationally renowned journals, a total of 25 papers published in SCI journals and writings of two books in recent years. He is also the principal investigator of Taiwan National Science Council and the National Health Research Institutes ad hoc research projects, because of his outstanding performance on the professional field. Besides, Dr. Sun was invited as a reviewer for many well-known international journals such as "Ophthalmology", "American Journal of Ophthalmology", "IOVS" and so on.

In addition, Sun is actively involved in academic physician service activities. At present, he is the Vice-Chairman of the Research Project Audit Committee and the Director of Centre for Medical Research at Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. He is also the chief editor of the 2010 Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Research Yearbook. Dr. Sun was active in many professional academic organizations; he is currently Vice Secretary-General of Taiwan Ophthalmology Society and trustee of Taiwan Cataract and Refractive Surgery Society.
