Tamara R. Fountain, MD was appointed as the Academy's 2011 Secretary for Member Services overseeing the Academy's Membership Advisory Committee (MAC), the Young Ophthalmologist (YO) Committee and the Academy Seniors (SO) Committee. She has many years of distinguished Academy service including on its Young Ophthalmologist, Lifelong Education, Ethics and Congressional Advocacy Committees. She was selected to the inaugural class of the Leadership Development Program and has received the Academy's Secretariat and Senior Achievement Awards. Dr. Fountain served on the Academy's Board of Directors as Trustee-at-Large from 2005-2008. She currently serves on the Academy's Health Policy Committee and the EyeNet Editorial Advisory Board and has given many print and live television interviews as a media spokesperson for the Academy's communication division.
She is a member of Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company and chairs the Risk Management Committee.
Dr. Fountain graduated with a medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She completed a residency in Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins' Wilmer Eye Institute before pursuing fellowship training in oculoplastic surgery at Doheny Eye Institute at University of Southern California.

Outside of Academy service, Dr. Fountain is active in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as past Executive Secretary and past chair of both the Thesis and Oral Exam Committees. She has served as president of the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology and has been involved in programming for both Women in Ophthalmology and the Chicago Ophthalmological Society.

She is Professor of Ophthalmology and Section chair of the department of oculoplastics at Rush University Medical Center. She maintains a private practice in Chicago's northern suburbs.

Dr. Fountain and her husband, Roy Jones, reside on Chicago's North Shore and are the proud parents of two college students, Natalie and Nicholas.
