I am a graduate resident in Ophthalmology, from Saint Georges Hospital-University Medical Center in the Department of Ophthalmology, Beirut - Lebanon. - I successfully completed my training in June 2018.

My main area of interest is Retina. I am seeking a fellowship position in your program that will allow me to grow professionally and advance my research interest. I would like to work in an academic environment that will assist my academic progress.

I earned my Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Balamand in 2006, following which I pursued postdoctoral clinical research focusing on resistant microbial disease epidemiology in Lebanon at the American University of Beirut Medical Center.

I completed an internship year in Internal Medicine and my residency in ophthalmology at Saint Georges Hospital-University Medical Center in the Department of Ophthalmology, Beirut - Lebanon.

In addition to being a medical doctor, I am a strong advocate of humanitarian activities which has been a part of my life since a young age. During my residency, with the help of the chairman of the department Dr. Elias Warrak, I was a co-founder in establishing "Overcoming barriers to vision care for nursing home residents" A proposal for a community service ophthalmology screening project. The purpose of which was to present free screening procedures to help detect and treat visual-impairment in older people in the nursing care facility at the Saint Georges Hospital-Nursing Home. That same year, I founded the ophthalmology NGO-OPD clinic. The purpose of which was volunteering as a department to provide free eye exams for refugees referred by 6 local and international NGOs. We examined more than 400 patients and performed more than 47 procedures, personally raising more than $18,000 in funds to cover surgical and medical costs.
Throughout my residency, besides my clinical passion, I have also been heavily involved in several clinical research studies and manuscripts resulting in 10 published manuscripts since 2015.
I am currently seeking a fellowship position in your medical retina program to gain valuable knowledge and professional experience with the long-term goal of looking for a second fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery. I believe this will help prepare me to face challenges on both clinical and personal levels that will further enhance my clinical, surgical and research skills; to becoming an accomplished surgeon, researcher, academic and philanthropist.
