Dr. Rasik Vajpayee is Professor at the University of Melbourne since 2006 and was Head of Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery Services at the RP Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, till 2013. He was appointed to a Chair as Head of Cornea and Cataract Surgery, at the University of Melbourne in 2006 for 5 years. He has also held the positions of Sub-Dean and Dean of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New-Delhi.Anterior segment, including Cornea, Ocular Surface Disease, Cataract and Refractive surgery has been his chosen field of Research, Teaching and Patient Care research specialisation. He has pioneered many innovative techniques of customized component corneal transplantation surgeries. He was the first in the world to successfully demonstrate the use of single donor cornea to treat multiple patients. He has published/Edited 13 books, about 25 book chapters and more than 350 research publications in peer reviewed Journals. His innovations in the field of corneal transplantation surgery have won "Best of Show Award" at the annual meetings of American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2009. Some of these techniques also won best video awards at annual APACRS, ESCRS and RANZCO meetings. The American Academy of Ophthalmology has honoured him with Achievement Award (2005) and Senior achievement Award (2013)
