"Clinical study of macular edema in diabetic patients with special reference to fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography"
This is a prospective study included total 300 cases with average 11months followup. 150 diabetic patients with macular edema were selected and clinically evaluated.150 patients without diabetes are taken as control and clinically evaluated. Fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomographic findings were recorded.statistical analysis of data carried out.
From the study we concluded that :
Hyperglycaemia is the most important modifiable risk factor associated with diabetes. The analysis of clinically significant macular edema based on both OCT and fluorescein angiography can provide information that may be useful to disclose the pathogenesis of the edema and to optimize the treatment for each type that may help optimise visual outcome in diabetic subjects.
A recurrence rate of 5% (1/20) in each group is observed concluding conjunctival autograft is always gold standard but amniotic graft is a good viable alternative.
