International Clinical Guidelines
International Guidelines are prepared and distributed to serve a supportive and educational role for ophthalmologists worldwide, and are intended to improve the quality of eye care for patients.
The ICO believes an ethical approach is indispensible; ethics is the first step toward quality clinical practices. Download the ICO Code of Ethics: www.icoph.org/downloads/icoethicalcode.pdf (PDF – 198 KB).
ICO Guidelines for Diabetic Eye Care
In 2013, the ICO published ICO Guidelines for Diabetic Eye Care with recommendations for screening and evaluating people with diabetes for potentially blinding eye problems. The Guidelines also provide instructions for treating those with diabetic retinopathy and other ocular complications of diabetes.

The Guidelines represent a technical consensus from the ICO Task Force on Diabetic Eye Care. This consensus followed an extensive review of diabetic eye care guidelines collected from around the world. The review documents are available at: www.icoph.org/taskforce-documents/diabetic-retinopathy-guidelines.html.
ICO Guidelines for Glaucoma Eye Care
The ICO Guidelines for Glaucoma Eye Care address low, middle, and high resource settings, which differentiate the guidelines from what already exists.
ICO Clinical Guidelines
The ICO has developed other Guidelines as listed below. We hope you will find these Guidelines to be easy to read and translate. All societies and others are encouraged to adapt, change, and edit them as needed.
