Basic Science Course in Ophthalmolopgy

The BSCO covers the Basic and Clinical Science Course from The Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology - San Francisco, CA: Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Series. The course is four weeks in duration and will be held from January 8th - February 2nd, 2018 at the Columbia University Medical Center. The BSCO includes instruction in optics, a two-day orbital dissection lab, ocular anatomy and histology labs, a phacoemulsification wet-lab, a glaucoma surgery wet-lab, a hands-on imaging workshop, and two days of instruction in retinoscopy and refraction.

Duke Glaucoma Fellows Course

The Duke Glaucoma Fellows' Course will take place Friday, November 10, 2017, the day before the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual meeting in New Orleans, LA.

This course will provide glaucoma fellows with a comprehensive overview of current practices and controversies in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and provide a hands-on experience in the latest surgical techniques. The fellows will be able to try out new surgical techniques and instrumentation and discuss how recent clinical trial evidence translates into the clinical setting. A variety of topics will be presented to stimulate the exchange of ideas. Wet-lab sessions and discussion periods will encourage fellow participation. This course is unique in that it is designed to have integrated surgical wet-labs, cutting-edge talks, and case panel discussions.

MIGS-travaganza! A Glaucoma Symposium

This one-day course is designed for physicians whose clinical practices include comprehensive ophthalmology and adult glaucoma care. Using an interactive, integrated approach, the distinguished speakers will present a variety of vignettes and practice pearls to illustrate topics in the surgical management of glaucoma with special attention to micro-incisional glaucoma surgery techniques and devices. The topics will include: Ab-interno placement of gel stent and mini-shunt, angle based surgeries, trabecular microstent, and implants utilizing the suprachoroidal space. Practical Applications of New Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Technologies (SD-OCT, OCT-A, SS-OCT) for Ocular Disease Diagnosis and Management

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is now a widely utilized ophthalmic diagnostic technology. This program, which includes the co-inventors of the technology among its faculty, is unique in its approach. The basic physical principles of OCT and new OCT imaging modalities are reviewed, followed by a comprehensive discussion and review of current clinical applications in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmic, corneal, and retinal diseases. Case-based presentations and discussions with faculty and meeting attendees will highlight the utility and important role of OCT imaging in identifying ocular disease and its response to treatment in clinical practice.
