The Conference for Ophthalmic Educators offers expert instruction, interactive workshops, and group discussion for ophthalmic educators. Educators of ophthalmology residents, fellows, medical students, CME, and allied ophthalmic personnel will learn about the latest tools and practice techniques of modern education.

The Chicago Conference for Ophthalmic Educators "Improving Teaching Effectiveness" will be held on October 15, 2016 from 2:00–5:30 p.m., at the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Annual Meeting in Chicago, USA.

Attend your choice of two workshop sessions and group discussion during the afternoon. Whether you are a resident, or have taught for a long time, these sessions will help you improve your teaching effectiveness and provide an opportunity to connect with other educators from around the world.

  • Attend: The Conference is open to all registered attendees of AAO 2016. No course passes are required for this session.
  • CME Credit: The Conference can be claimed for CME credit as part of the 33 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ designated to AAO 2016.
  • Location: Room S104AB, McCormick Place, Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 2:00–5:30 p.m.

 

Agenda

The workshops will be led by recognized experts in the field, including Drs. Pinar Aydin, Kathy Cao, Elizabeth Du, Essam El Thouky, Susan Forster, Matthew Gearinger, Karl Golnik, Cathy Green, Vanitha Jeyaraj, Andreas Lauer, Eduardo Mayorga, Tom Oetting, and Ana Gabriela Palis.

Planned workshops and plenaries will cover new topics not offered at previous Conferences held at AAO. Tentative workshops for 2016 include:

  • Problem-Based Learning
  • Tools for Teaching and Assessing Ethics and Professionalism
  • Surgical Teaching
  • Communication Skills and the Problem Patient
  • Stimulate Deep Learning: Utilizing Mind Maps for Learning and Performance Support
  • How do I Tackle Andragogy? The Importance of Adult Learning Principles in Teaching, Feedback, and Performance.

The agenda and full workshop descriptions will be available prior to the Conference. Review past conference agendas from AAO Las Vegas 2015 and AAO Chicago 2014.
