The Conference for Ophthalmic Educators offers expert instruction, interactive workshops, and group discussion for ophthalmic educators. Educators of ophthalmology residents, fellows, medical students, CME, and allied ophthalmic personnel will learn about the latest tools and practice techniques of modern education.

The New Orleans Conference for Ophthalmic Educators will be held on 11 November 2017 from 14:00–17:30, at the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Annual Meeting in New Orleans, USA.

Attend your choice of two workshop sessions and group discussion during the afternoon. Whether you are a resident or have taught for a long time, these sessions will help you improve your teaching effectiveness and provide an opportunity to connect with other educators from around the world.

  • Attend: The Conference is open to all registered attendees of AAO 2017. No course passes are required for this session.
  • Location: Ernest N. Morial Convention Center room 346-347 on Saturday, 11 November 2017 from 14:00–17:30.
  • CME Credit: Categorized as a symposium of AAO 2017, the Conference can be claimed for CME credit as part of the 31 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ designated to AAO 2017.

Agenda 

The Conference will be led by recognized experts in the field, chaired by Dr. Ana Gabriela Palis, and including Drs. Pinar Aydin, Clare Davey, Helena Filipe, Prashant Garg, Matthew Gearinger, Karl Golnik, Simon Keightley, Eduardo Mayorga, Shannon McCole, Daniel Moore, and Laura Wayman.

Planned workshops and plenaries will cover new topics not offered at previous Conferences held at AAO. Workshops for 2017 include:

  • Expanding the Education Division in Your Department: Working with Limited Resources
  • How to Organize a Successful Clinical Exam
  • Technology-Assisted Teaching
  • The Roles and Competencies of a Good Teacher
  • Types of Written Assessments: Examples and When to Use Each

Plenary:

  • The Global Spectrum of ICO Education Activities
