The ICO is pleased to announce its eleventh year co-sponsoring the Eyexcel course along with the Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology (LAICO) and the Seva Foundation. Eyexcel facilitates the creation or enhancement of ophthalmic training programs––ultimately increasing the availability of eye care.

This year’s Eyexcel course will take place 29 July 2019 to 02 August 2019 at the LAICO facility in Madurai, India.

The 2019 course will focus primarily on allied ophthalmic personnel training needs. Participants will define the skills their students require for eye health care responsibilities. The Eyexcel course will focus on producing specific teaching and assessment methods, program evaluation, and sustainability. Modules will include:

  • Importance of AOPs and Principals of adult learning
  • Analysis & Design of the training programme
  • Development and implementation of the training programme
  • Training program evaluation
  • Training program development and sustainability

Many of the resources covered at Eyexcel are available in the ICO’s Center for Ophthalmic Educators under “What to Teach” for Allied Eye Care Personnel.

The course is open to teams from anywhere around the world. Instructional methods include excersises, case studies, group discussions and small group work. Course participants will also be expected to participate in pre and post course activities to help facilitate learning and encourage the application of the concepts upon completion of the course. Course size is limited, and the deadline for registration is 3 July 2019.
