1. Measure and record visual acuity:
   
   
   • How to examine an eye
     
     
   • Distance and new visual acuity

2. Evaluate a red eye:
   
   
   • Acute conjunctivitis
     
     
   • Foreign bodies
     
     
   • Herpetic eye disease
     
     
   • Red lids
     
     
   • Slit lamp exam
     
     
3. Evaluate a traumatized eye:
   
   
   • Scratches and abrasions
     
     
   • Sub-tarsal foreign bodies
     
     
   • Corneal foreign bodies
     
     
   • Blunt trauma
     
     
   • Hyphema
     
     
   • Perforating trauma
     
     
4. Detect strabismus and abnormal eye movements:
   
   
   • Eye movements
     
     
   • Children - cover test for strabismus
     
     
5. Detect abnormal pupillary responses
   
   
6. Perform direct ophthalmoscopy to detect abnormalities of the optic nerve and funus:
