ICO Notes:
ICO Asks Societies to Collaborate on CME
Dear ICO Members and Friends,
Two topics in this brief communication:
1. ICO Asks Societies to Collaborate on CME
I am pleased to report on the recent activities of the ICO Continuing Medical Education (CME) Task Force: plans to support ophthalmologic societies' CME programs and a new Visiting Professor Program.
The ICO CME Task Force is reaching out to ophthalmologic societies to help establish and promote the importance of formal CME programs. Last month, Task Force Chair Juan Verdaguer sent a letter to societies asking them to complete a CME questionnaire and to nominate a representative to work with the ICO's CME Task Force.
Since then, we have received a great response to the survey, and we welcome more feedback. If you have not yet had the chance to name a CME representative, I encourage you to do so. We hope that every ICO member society will complete the survey and participate. For more details, you can find a copy of the CME mailing on the ICO website www.icoph.org/ed/societycme.html.
The Visiting Professor Program is a new program managed by the ICO CME Task Force. Host institutions, particularly in developing countries, will be able to invite professors for four to five day visits. These host institutions should have a strong need, a significant number of physicians-in-training, and the organizational ability to plan a successful visit. The visiting professor will teach, see problem cases and interact with staff and residents.
Dr. Juan Verdaguer is the ICO Continuing Medical Education Task Force Chair. You may contact him at juan.verdaguer.t@gmail.com with your questions or comments.
2. ICO Treasurer
Due to the tragic loss of ICO Treasurer Yasuo Tano, I am currently acting as ICO Treasurer. The ICO Board will elect a new Treasurer either when it meets in October or before then by e-mail ballot.
We have had a very good response to our request for ICO dues payments this year, perhaps facilitated because we now accept credit cards. Please contact us at treasurer@icoph.org if you did not receive the dues request, if you would like to update your society's contact information, or if you have any questions about the 2009 ICO dues. You can also access more information on our website: www.icoph.org/payment/payment.php.
Your membership support of the ICO has enabled us to become increasingly active in our efforts to raise the level of eye care worldwide. Thank you!
With warm regards,
