Download the 2011 Conferences for Educators information sheet here: www.icoph.org/downloads/ConferencesforEducators.pdf.
Anyone who would like to attend these conferences should write to us at education@icoph.org. There will be no registration fee, but participants will need to cover their own travel and personal costs.
These new Conferences for Educators are a major tangible step toward our goal of improving ophthalmic education, working closely with supranational and national societies to create meaningful learning opportunities for ophthalmic educators.
In September and October we will be contacting you to ask for your input and feedback in preparation for the Conferences for Educators (see #1 above) and for the ICO’s Strategic Planning Process (see July’s ICO Notes).
If you or anyone in your society are involved in teaching ophthalmology residents, subspecialists, medical students, allied eye care personnel or in continuing education for any of these groups, I strongly encourage you to write us to let us know your interests at education@icoph.org. We would like to include as many people as possible in the needs assessment for the new Conferences for Educators.
We are also planning a survey of ICO member societies and of individual ophthalmologists within societies to help inform the strategic planning process we began at this year’s General Assembly. We would like to gather still more ideas and information from you in preparation for two upcoming planning sessions where we will propose priorities for international ophthalmology with specific strategies for the ICO.
Look for these surveys in October.
I would like to introduce Ms. Lindsey Washburn as the new Membership Coordinator for the ICO, working in support of Secretary-General Jean-Jacques De Laey. Many of you may know Lindsey as the ICO’s former program assistant. She has been with us for three years and we are now happy to have her support as the main point of contact for ICO Members. (Lindsey is also administrator for our San Francisco office.)
Your society’s membership is very important to the ICO and we are continuously looking for ways to improve our membership services and offerings. Please feel free to get in touch with Lindsey anytime with your suggestions, comments or questions. Her e-mail address is lwashburn@icoph.org.
Lindsey will be available at the ICO booth at the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress in Beijing this September 16–19. The ICO booth number is B23 in Plenary Hall at 4/F. Lindsey would be happy to meet with you if there is anything you would like to discuss with regard to your society’s membership or the ICO.
I hope you have been able to explore the new ICO Web site: www.icoph.org. If you haven’t already, please visit our new searchable ophthalmic events page, www.icoph.org/events.html, where we list congresses, meetings and other events in local and international ophthalmology.
We would be happy to list the meetings and events of ICO members. If you do not currently see your congress listed, please contact us at info@icoph.org with the dates, information and other details.
If you have additional detailed information in the form of a press release or other announcement, please send it to us and we will feature your upcoming meeting and/or event in our News section, www.icoph.org/news/recent_news.html.
With warm regards,

Bruce
