ICO Notes
Please Help Us Promote the WOC in Berlin

December 2009

ICO President Bruce Spivey, MD, MS, MEd

Dear ICO Members and Friends,

As we approach the final days of 2009, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your participation in, and enthusiasm for, the ICO. This has been an amazing year, and with much anticipation we look forward to 2010.

The New Year will present many exciting opportunities, and a highlight will be the chance to gather in Berlin at the World Ophthalmology Congress® (WOC), June 5-9.

The program for WOC 2010 has been carefully created for our worldwide and multifaceted audience. From the scientific to the social, WOC 2010 offers something for everyone. You won't want to miss this remarkable experience to connect, learn, and grow, with the dramatic city of Berlin as a backdrop.

The true magic of this meeting will be the diversity of cultures and expertise intermingling in a stimulating educational setting. The more diverse and wide ranging the participants, the better the Congress experience will be.

Please help make WOC 2010 the best yet by encouraging your members and colleagues to attend. Below you will find tools and information to help you promote WOC 2010 within your societies. I look forward to seeing you and your society colleagues in Berlin.

WOC 2010 Promotion Tools

We would appreciate whatever you can do to inform your members and others about the 2010 World Ophthalmology Congress and encourage them to join us in Berlin.

Please add a WOC Web site link, www.woc2010.org, and logo to your Web site; include a WOC 2010 slide (PowerPoint) in your presentations; and encourage your members to attend in your society newsletter. Images and tools are available for you to download at www.woc2010.org/downloads.html [Username: WOC2010, Password: See_you].

Please use any and all of these tools in your communications to your members and partners. If there is another way we can help you promote the World Congress, please contact me. The ICO and WOC 2010 staffs are happy to help.

Thank you in advance for inviting ophthalmologists and eye care professionals in your society and network to the World Congress in Berlin.

WOC 2010 Preliminary Program Now Available

Perhaps the most compelling reason to go to Berlin for WOC 2010 next June 5-9 is the outstanding scientific program.

Planned by Chair Professor Stephen J. Ryan (United States), and Co-Chairs Professor Bernd Bertram and Professor Gabriele E. Lang (both of Germany), the scientific program includes more than 3,000 international experts covering a wide range of topics in more than 600 sessions. Free paper presentations, electronic posters, and videos will further stimulate your interest.

The WOC Preliminary Program is now available at: www.woc2010.org/fileadmin/media/newsletter/WOC2010_PreProgram_en_01.pdf. (PDF – 2.4 MB). Sign up to receive additional e-mail notices of important dates and information at: www.woc2010.org/request-information.html.

Free WOC Registration for ICO Representatives

All ICO Member Organizations are invited to attend the ICO General Assembly on June 5, 2010 at the WOC in Berlin.

The Congress offers free registration for the official Representative to the ICO from each member society, so that every member can participate in the ICO General Assembly.

If you have not already done so, we ask that you select an official ICO Representative as soon as possible. Please send their name, e-mail address, country, and society name to info@icoph.org. We will then arrange Congress registration for the official representative. (Member societies must have paid their 2010 dues to receive this free registration.)

We look forward to having you and your society join us for this important worldwide meeting of ophthalmologists.

ICO Dues Reminder

Earlier this week, the ICO Officers and I sent dues invoices to each ICO Member. For your reference, a copy of that mailing and an update on ICO programs and recent survey results is available here: archive.icoph.org/news/ICODuesMailing2010.html.

We ask that member societies send ICO dues payments by January 1, 2010. Payments can be made by credit card, wire transfer, or check. Payment instructions are provided on the invoice.

If your society did not receive the invoice and mailing, or if you have any questions, please contact mail to: treasurer@icoph.org. We will be happy to assist you.

I thank you again for your support and participation in the ICO.

Wishing you and your family health, happiness and peace,
Bruce
