Ophthalmic Educators Letter

October 2018

This month, we share a variety of resources for training, teaching, and assessing students and yourself. Please remember that the ICO Conference for Educators will take place on 27 October in Chicago in conjunction with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). The Conference is open to all AAO registered attendees and we invite all colleagues to attend.

We are grateful to our editors Drs. Zelia Correa, Helena Filipe, David Newsham, and Meenakshi Swaminathan for their contributions this month. Visit the Center for Ophthalmic Educators to access additional resources in more categories for all audiences.

ICO Fellowships: New Application Period is Open

The International Council of Ophthalmology Fellowships Program intends to assist promising young ophthalmologists from low-resource countries to improve their practical skills and broaden their perspectives of ophthalmology. Fellows are expected to bring their acquired knowledge and skills back to their home countries and take part in programs to preserve vision and prevent blindness.

ICO-Allergan Advanced Research Fellowship
The Fellowships program is especially eager to hear from young ophthalmologists with an interest in research for the ICO-Allergan Advanced Research Fellowship. This fellowship allows one young ophthalmologist (from any country) to continue basic or clinical research at a chosen university, preferably in a foreign country to where they live. The application deadline for ICO-Allergan Advanced Research Fellowship is 15 January 2019. Applicants should allow themselves 8 weeks to prepare their application.

Additional ICO Fellowship Opportunities
The ICO Fellowships Program also offers 3-month, 6-month (retinoblastoma), and 1-year subspecialty fellowships. The application deadline for the 3-month and 6-month opportunities is 31 March 2019, and 30 September 2019 for the 1-year subspecialty fellowship.
