ICO Fellowships

The ICO Fellowships Program provides opportunities for promising young ophthalmologists from low-resource countries, to improve their practical skills and broaden their perspectives of ophthalmology. Fellows bring this acquired knowledge and skills back to their home countries and take part in vital programs that preserve vision and prevent blindness.

Eligible candidates must have completed their residency training and have passed their "Specialist in Ophthalmology" degree. We recommend that candidates pass one or more ICO exams and we consider this in the assessment of applications. Candidates from ICO Member societies receive special consideration.

The ICO network of host institutions includes 135 hospitals and universities across 33 countries.

The deadline for the following Fellowships applications is 30 September, 2019:

Additional French Translations of ICO-OSCARs

The ICO-OSCARs for Trabeculectomy and Pediatric Cataract Surgery have been translated into French and are now available for download. We extend our appreciation to Drs. Ilhem Mili-Boussen, Mejdi Boukari, and Imen Zhioua-Braham for these translations.

The ICO Ophthalmology Surgical Competency Assessment Rubrics (ICO-OSCARs) are behavioral and skill-based rubrics designed to teach and assess an ophthalmologist’s surgical competence. Educators use the rubrics to measure the resident’s capability in performing a specific procedure objectively. They also give learners tools to gauge their effectiveness. The ICO-OSCARs are standardized and internationally validated.
