Organizing the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) Scientific Program requires balancing the interests of a diverse and global audience. Dr. Wiedemann's duties as chair included the selection of topics for the more than 500 scientific sessions, representing 35 ophthalmology subspecialties and coordinating the recruitment of 2000 internationally recognized guest speakers.
The interview touches upon the International Council of Ophthalmology's emphasis on improving ophthlamic education through its teaching the teachers sessions at the WOC2012.
Dr. Wiedemann also discusses other issues relating to the international congress, including the challenges of adopting technology in developing countries.
