Posted on May 26, 2012

The  ICO initiative on “Teaching the Teachers" aims to help ophthalmic educators incorporate more effective methods of training and continuing professional development, enabling teachers and students to connect efficiently and economically.

The Teaching the Teachers initiative has expanded to include the ICO Center for Ophthalmic Educators, educators.icoph.org, which offers a broad array of educational tools for teachers of residents, subspecialists, and practicing ophthalmologists, as well as allied eye care personnel and medical students. The Center also provides areas for ophthalmic educators to share ideas and collaborate with peers.

"If you are an ophthalmic educator, I urge you to visit the Center," said Gabriela  Palis, MD, Editor in Chief, Center for Ophthalmic Educators.

"Also please sign up for our monthly Ophthalmic Educators Letter, and let us know what else we could do to support your teaching by emailing educators@icoph.org."

Dating back to the first Course for Residency Program Directors held in 2004, Teaching the Teachers leverages local leaders and champions, expands access to quality ophthalmic educational materials and best practices worldwide, and provides a mechanism for networking and implementation of modern training methods. The initiative's ultimate aim is to enhance ophthalmic education, with the ultimate result being better patient care.
