The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) Board of Trustees unanimously voted Jean-Jacques De Laey, MD to ICO Vice President in April 2012.

"Dr. De Laey has served as Secretary General since 2006 and will continue to provide strong leadership and direction as Vice President," said Bruce Spivey, MD, ICO President.

"After much discussion, the Board decided to hire a CEO and change the terms of the other Officers, with the CEO taking on most of the responsibilities of the Secretary General and Jean-Jacques becoming an additional Vice President," Dr. Spivey continued.

The Board voted in November 2011 to change the ICO Regulations and proposed changes in the Statutes.   These changes were approved at the February 2012 ICO General Assembly in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
