The 2012 World Ophthalmology Congress® (WOC) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates presented many “firsts,” including the first time the WOC was hosted in the Middle East and Africa and the first time sessions were devoted to Women in Ophthalmology and Young Ophthalmologists.

"The WOC is a fantastic resource for women, for those beginning a career in our profession, and others who wish to take advantage of the information and networking opportunities available at the Congress," said Dr. Abdulaziz AlRajhi, WOC2012 President.

The Women in Ophthalmology sessions focused on the challenges women face in their ophthalmologic career.
Sessions also looked at  new developments and ideas to engage women further in ophthalmology, including presentations on how to balance personal and professional life, create a brand, and further develop equity in training.
Other WOC sessions focused on  young ophthalmologists,  offering discussions on education and developing strong support networks.
