The 2018 World Ophthalmology Congress® of the International Council of Ophthalmology will be hosted by the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology (Sociedad Española de Oftalmología–SEO) June 16–20, 2018, in Barcelona, Spain.

"With WOC2018, the ICO will for the first time take the lead in organizing the WOC," said Dr. Bruce Spivey, ICO President.

"The ICO Board of Trustees selected the Spanish Society and Barcelona in 2012 subject to agreement on 'Expectations' for the 2018 WOC, which have been approved by the ICO and SEO."

The European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE) and Spanish Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (SECOIR) will co-host WOC2018, in conjunction with the Catalan Society of Ophthalmology and Barraquer Institute.

Rafael I. Barraquer, MD, PhD, has been nominated by the SEO to serve as the President of WOC2018.

The WOC is held in a different region every two years. WOC2014, hosted by the Japanese Ophthalmological Society, will be in Tokyo, Japan, April 2–6; and WOC2016, hosted by the Mexican Society of Ophthalmology, will be in Guadalajara, Mexico, February 5–9.

"Mark your calendars now!" said Dr. Spivey.
