The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) conducted two Residency Program Directors Courses in March and April 2013.

"The two-day workshops focus on methods of instruction, skill assessment, behavior adjustment, and competence measurement," said Dr. Gabriela Palis, Editor in Chief, ICO Center for Ophthalmic Educators.

"They are held each year in cities around the world and coordinated through the national or regional ophthalmologic society."

The first course, co-sponsored and hosted by the Chilean Society of Ophthalmology and supported by the Pan-American Association for Ophthalmology, was March 14–15 in Santiago, Chile.

The second course, April 14–15 in Chongqing, China, was co-sponsored and hosted by the Chinese Ophthalmological Society. The Residency Program Directors Courses are supported by The Allergan Foundation.

"While the courses are open to educators on an invitation-only basis, many of the instructional materials used are available online through the ICO," said Dr. Palis.

"Please download the newly updated ICO Residency Curriculum, and check out other valuable resources such as the ICO-OSCARs in the Center for Ophthalmic Educators: educators.icoph.org."
