Posted on June 17, 2010
Topic: World Ophthalmology Congress
Region: Europe

More than 13,000 attended WOC 2010, and it was wonderful and rewarding to have so many ophthalmologists from all over the world gather in Berlin.

Thanks to the Scientific Program Committee, the German Society of Ophthalmology, German Academy of Ophthalmology (hosts), all of the speakers, congress management and others. Much hard work went into making this a truly outstanding Congress.

Among the highlights of the Congress were:

  • A robust scientific program featuring 3,000 internationally recognized speakers in 600 scientific sessions, many organized by 58 ophthalmologic societies
  • 600 free papers and more than 1,100 posters
  • 28 symposia sponsored by industry
  • Subspecialty Days focused on retina, glaucoma, cataract and refractive surgery
  • The second World Ophthalmic Education Colloquium (WOEC), with more than 40 speakers in eight symposia
  • The third World Forum of Non-Profit Organizations in Vision and Blindness Prevention with important discussion and plans for the next 10 years of VISION 2020
  • WOCtoberfest, a Bavarian style celebration held at the historic Berlin Tempelhof Airport.
