Region: Africa

To support upwards of 18,000 cataract surgeries over the next five years, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) has committed US$2 million to the Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute (MICEI) in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The Cameroon Development Impact Loan is results-based, with investors providing upfront financing and donor organizations repaying investors their principal plus a return based on realized performance in delivering outcomes.

MICEI–– the only regional subspecialty-training center in Francophone Africa––provides comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable eye care in an underserved region. Organizations contributing to the success of this endeavor are the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, The Fred Hollows Foundation, Sightsavers, the Africa Eye Foundation, and D. Capital Partners.
