ICO Member Societies Make Vision Count for World Sight Day

ICO Member societies actively engaged in World Sight Day 2017, successfully advancing awareness about eye health. The Ophthalmological Society of Taiwan (TOS), for example, hosted events that garnered significant media coverage and tens of thousands of online interactions.

Collaborating with nongovernmental organizations, Alcon Taiwan, and the government, the TOS kicked off their “More to See” Cataract Awareness Campaign with an eye care press conference in August. The TOS then held a Facebook photo contest, “Love From Your Eyes,” which creatively linked eye health to making emotional connections through eye contact. The contest attracted 500 participants and 27,000 “likes” on social media.

“World Sight Day in Taiwan,” a second press conference in October, focused on the large percentage of Taiwanese who overuse 3C products (ie, computer, communication, and consumer electronics), and their negative impact on both eye health and social interactions.

Thank you ICO Member societies for working to ensure that World Sight Day is a successful advocacy and communications event.
