January 10, 2018 ICO-SAFO Leadership Development Program in Dakar

The Société Africaine Francophone d'Ophtalmologie (SAFO) Leadership Development Program (LDP) for Francophone Africa presented an intensive one-day meeting on 3 December 2017, in Dakar, Senegal. Developed with the African Ophthalmology Council (AOC) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), with support from the ICO, the LDP program focused on meeting the needs of future leaders in Sub-Saharan Africa. It was held in conjunction with the 2017 SAFO Congress hosted by the Senegalese Ophthalmology Society and its President, Prof. Madoune Ndiaye.

January 3, 2018 Applications Now Open for Specialist Certificate in Fundamentals of Eye Banking - University of Melbourne

A Specialist Certificate in the Fundamentals of Eye Banking from the University of Melbourne will equip graduates to work within the specialist field of eye banking. The course has been designed to support existing eye bankers, those new to the sector and those working in peer and relevant sectors who wish to gain additional knowledge about eye banking in order to support their own area of specialisation.

The course will take place from 5 March 2018 to 3 June 2018.

November 27, 2017 ICO Member IUSG Course for Uveitis in Addis Ababa

The International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG) and the ICO are sponsoring the 1st Uveitis Course in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 17–23 February 2018.

Similar to the IUSG’s uveitis course in Venice, Italy, the Ethiopian course covers the whole field of uveitis. The interactive program allows in-depth discussion on management of uveitis issues, and attendees will learn how to evaluate patients, develop a differential diagnosis, interpret imaging results, and optimize a treatment strategy.

Taught by an international faculty of highly experienced uveitis specialists and limited to 80 attendees, the one-week course will be at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), approximately 15 minutes from the airport.

Uveitis and Ocular Immunology

October 25, 2017 Presentation Skills Course at AAO

The ICO co-sponsored course, “Presentation Skills: How to Improve the Effectiveness of Lectures” will be held during the AAO meeting on Sunday, 12 November, 14:00–15:00 in Morial Convention Center Room 340-341.

This course intends to increase participants' skills to make lectures more engaging, active, and effective. Participants will consider how to apply adult learning principles to create meaningful presentations, organize content logically, design slides clearly, and present in an interesting, interactive way.

An AAO Course Pass is required to attend this course.
