Continuing Professional Development

There is a critical need to help ophthalmologists maintain their competency and learn new skills, with the ultimate goal of preventing avoidable blindness and visual loss.

Led by Helena Prior Filipe, MD, the ICO Continuing Professional Development (CPD) committee seeks to increase access to quality eye care through stimulation and support of ophthalmologic society CPD programs, helping societies provide continuing education most relevant to their members and to the needs of the public.

Committee Activities:

CPD Representatives

The CPD Committee has established a network of Continuing Professional Development Representatives from ICO Member and other ophthalmological societies to inform and collaborate with the collaborate with the Committee. 

Visiting Professor Program

This program targeted the CPD needs of developing countries by sending professors to help teach and train local ophthalmologists.  There were three professorships in 2009.
