Continuing Medical Education
There is a critical need to help ophthalmologists maintain their competency and learn new skills, with the ultimate goal of preventing avoidable blindness and visual loss.
Led by Juan Verdaguer, MD, the ICO Task Force on Continuing Medical Education (CME) seeks to increase access to quality eye care by supporting and furthering ophthalmic continuing education.
Task Force Activities:
CME Representatives
The CME Task Force has established a network of Continuing Medical Education Representatives from ICO Member and other ophthalmological societies to inform and collaborate with the Task Force.
Visiting Professor Program
This program targets the CME needs of developing countries by sending professors to help teach and train local ophthalmologists. There were three professorships in 2009:
- Anthony Murray, MD to Tanzania
- Gabriel Coscas, MD to Alger, Algeria
- Peter McCluskey, MD to Hanoi, Vietnam
Meeting Accreditation Sub-Committee
Chaired by Heather Mack, MD, the Meeting Accreditation Sub-Committee is exploring an ICO accreditation mechanism for national and supranational society meetings.
