Medical Student Education

The increasing age of the world population, high prevalence of common problems such as eye injury and red eye, and importance of vision in the information age support the need to expand ophthalmic medical student education.

The ICO Medical Student Education Sub-Committee advocates that a complete physician education includes appropriate ophthalmic curriculum for all medical students.

The ICO has the following committees that seek to enhance and improve ophthalmic subspecialty fellow training:

  • Committee on Curricula and Expectations for Training Programs
    – Chair, Peter Quiros, MD
  • Sub-Committee on Medical Student Education
    – Chair, Susan Forster, MD

These committees are involved in the programs listed below. Questions about ICO education programs should be directed to: educators@icoph.org.
