Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia in Spain, and it is the second largest city in the country of Spain. It is a Roman city and has population of about 1.6 million, being the sixth-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, Madrid, the Ruhr area, and Milan. It is also the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea.

Barcelona is rich in architectural ensembles, including unique buildings such as the Casa Milà, the Casa Battló, or the Sagrada Familia Church, built by Antoni Gaudi.

Visa Requirements

It is recommended to apply as early as possible for a Visa as the application process can be time consuming. Visa regulations depend on your nationality and country of origin.

Currently EU citizens as well as visitors from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the USA do not need a Visa to enter Spain. Regulations, however, are subject to change. It is therefore recommended to check whether you require a Visa.

Arriving in Barcelona By…

Plane

Plane

The Barcelona airport (code BCN), with several terminals, is located 16 kilometers south of the city and is also known as Barcelona-El Prat. Barcelona can also be reached by transport links from other regional airports, including Girona, Reus and Lleida -Alguaire.

The Aerobus is the direct bus from Barcelona Airport, El Prat, to Barcelona city center. It is approximately a 35 minute trip that will cost you EUR 5.90. Bus 46 is approximately a 40 minute trip to Plaça de Catalunya, and will cost you EUR 4.

By taxi it is approximately 20 minutes to Plaça de Catalunya, and will cost you around EUR 20. However, traffic can be dense in the city center and it might take much longer to reach your destination.

Barcelona has direct railway links with a number of important cities, including Paris, Zurich and Milan, and the high-speed train runs to Madrid, southern and eastern Spain. The city’s major railway stations and metropolitan rail network ensure you can travel to Barcelona and anywhere by train without any difficulties.

Barcelona is well connected and has a large amount of car parks. The motorway and road network will take you anywhere in the city by car although it’s worth bearing in mind that traffic can be heavy at the main entry points of Barcelona during rush hour.

The bus station in Barcelona that has the most national and international connections is Barcelona Nord Bus Station. Buses also depart from Barcelona Sants station and other areas of the city.

Barcelona has become the Mediterranean’s foremost cruise ship harbor. It has nine passenger terminals, seven for cruise liners and four for ferries. It has connections with the Balearic Islands and the main Mediterranean harbors.

There are several very efficient direct public transport options to access the Fira Gran Via. WOC2018 is utilizing Halls 6-8 at the North Entrance.

Taxis are plentiful in Barcelona and can be found all over the city. All taxis are black and yellow and are metered.

Delegates arriving by car can use parking F in front of Hall 8. Parking tickets can be bought directly in this parking area for € 2,90 / hour or € 25 per day.

Option 1: Take Metro Line L9 Sud and stop at station "Fira". From the Fira station, it is a 6 minute walk to the North Access Hall 8 for WOC.

Option 2: Take the TMB Bus, line 46 from El Prat to Plaça Europa and taxi to the Fira Gran Via.

Line 79 bus: Avinguda Joan Carles I / Botanica. This bus line stops right in front of Hall 8

Line 125 bus: Foc / Metal-lurgia. This bus line stops right in front of Hall 7.

Closest Station and Metro Line: Line L9 Sud to the "Fira" station (do NOT use the Europe Fira station). The Fira station is the newest station closest to the North Access of the Fira for WOC and is a 6 minute walk to Hall 8.

Metro Red line: L1 intersects with L9 Sud at the Torrasso station

Metro Green Line: L3 interests with L9 Sud at the Zona Universitaria station

Metro Purple Line: L5 interests with L9 Sud at the Collblanc station
