This report expands upon the Visual Acuity Measurement Standard report, published in 1984. While the previous report just dealt with the measurement of visual acuity, Visual Standards - Aspects and Ranges of Vision Loss, published in 2002, discusses meaningful ways to categorize this data for population surveys.
The Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) format, which was advocated in the 1984 Visual Acuity Measurement Standard, is now the de facto international standard.
Visual Standards - Aspects and Ranges of Vision Loss was prepared for the International Council of Ophthalmology at the 29th International Congress of Ophthalmology, Sydney, Australia in April 2002.
