This Spanish-language resource outlines clinical-practice guidelines for treating diabetic retinopathy in Latin America. It was developed by the Blindness Prevention Committee of the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology and the diabetic retinopathy subcommittee of VISION 2020 Latin America, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.

The guidelines are meant for training centers with residency programs in ophthalmology, administrators and health-care providers. They were also developed to help disseminate information to patients and families with diabetes.

The information included reflects a series of workshops led by ophthalmologists and health professionals throughout Latin America.
