<p>The L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) will offer a Diploma in Community Eye Health (DCEH) and a Masters program in Community Eye Health (MCEH) in 2012.</p>
]]><![CDATA[<p>The DCEH program is six-months long and the MCEH program is 11-months long.&nbsp;&nbsp; Both programs aim to help professionals and organizations improve the quality of eye care within their community, thus reducing blindness and visual impairment on a larger scale.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The DCEH program is structured to include six progressive courses having to do with community health and eye care.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The fees and stipends for this program are staggered according to students coming from low income, middle income, or high income countries. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The LVPEI also offers a MCEH in collaboration with the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.   Those who have completed the DCEH program with at least  65% can take lateral entry to the Masters program. The &nbsp;MCEH program will commence January 02, 2012 and continue until November 2012.</p>]]></description>

             <title><![CDATA[Vision 2020: 2012 Course In Community Eye Health In Cape Town, South Africa ]]></title>

<p>To facilitate the implementation of Vision 2020 in sub-Saharan Africa, the University of Cape Town will be conducting an approximately one-year long course on developing and implementing community eye health programs.</p>
]]><![CDATA[<p>Vision 2020 is a partnership initiative between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) for the elimination of avoidable blindness.</p>
<p>The course earns a post-graduate diploma from the University of Cape Town.  Students develop strategies for human resource development, infrastructure development, and disease control.  They then implement, administer, manage and monitor a Vision 2020 program.</p>
<p>The course will be held at the University of Cape Town Community Eye Health Institute at Groote Schuur Hospital, University of Cape Town, South Africa.  Participants come to Cape Town for 10 weeks at the beginning of the course in January 2012 and again for 2 weeks at the end of the course in November 2012.&nbsp; </p>

It includes presentations about Cochrane Collaboration methodology, and offers hands-on practice using the Cochrane Collaboration's Review Manager (RevMan) software.  The workshop also includes a statistics review session.</p>

	Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:</p>

		Describe the steps required to critically appraise original research studies</li>

		Describe the process used to collect and extract data from reports of original studies</li>

<p>This new, intensive, five-day course at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine aims to familiarize participants with a health systems' approach to eye care for communities in developing countries through the use of practical interactive examples, case studies and using the knowledge of the VISION 2020 key components and strategies.</p>

	The course is intended for ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nurses, optometrists and allied professionals working in eye health and health planners and managers, NGO staff both from the developing and developed world, who intend to work in this field in a developing country, or are already doing so and wish to extend their knowledge. Only strong applicants will be accepted.</p>
<p>
	The course is being lead by veteran Lecturer Karl Blanchet. Karl&rsquo;s background is in public health and international development studies with an extensive experience in health system strengthening in Asia and Africa. Karl was one of the contributors of the Chapter on General Health Care of the World Report on Disability published by the World Health Organisation.</p>

<p>APGC 2012 is the inaugural conference organized by the new Asia Pacific Glaucoma Society (APGS), which was formed by the merger of three regional glaucoma associations: South East Asia Glaucoma Interest Group (SEAGIG), Asian-Oceanic Glaucoma Society (AOGS) and the Asian Angle-Closure Glaucoma Club (AACGC). APGC will now be the only regional glaucoma congress in the Asia Pacific.

	The APGC 2012 theme is &ldquo;Mastering Glaucoma: A Roadmap to Success &amp; Beyond.&rdquo; The Congress will feature in-depth reviews, instructional courses and discussions of the latest clinical and scientific topics in glaucoma.</p>

	Tailored for ophthalmologists, eye surgeons, vision scientists and other professionals with an interest in glaucoma, the APGC 2012 will serve as a natural gathering point for both experienced and young professionals to present their research, take part in hands-on instructional courses and network.<br />

	This inaugural congress is taking place December 7-9, 2012 in Bali, Indonesia.&nbsp;&nbsp; Bali is famous for its wide ranging arts scene and rich cultural heritage.</p>

<p>The World Cornea Congresses highlight the international corneal community's endeavors in clinical and research areas. It is held every five years and is sponsored by The Cornea Society.  The next three-day meeting will include both invited speakers and a call for papers, as well as a poster session each day and an exhibit hall.</p>
]]><![CDATA[<p>The most recent meeting, World Cornea Congress VI, was held in Boston, MA in 2010 under the leadership of Drs. Edward Holland and Mark Mannis. The WCCVI broke attendance records and was one of the largest subspecialty meetings held in 2010.</p>

<p>The Congress will immediately precede the The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA) Symposium and Congress.</p>
